A large Manteno figural vessel from Ecuador, ca. 1000 – 1500 AD. This choice blackware example is 9” high and features a beautifully detailed head emanating from the upper chamber. The conical headdress is etched into the broad rim using a technique alternating burnished and matte areas. Intact, nicely burnished, good mineral deposits.

A choice Nazca bowl from Peru, ca. 500 – 600 AD. It is 5-3/4” in diameter and features a star design with an unusual central dot, which turns it into a phytomorphic motif. One interpretation of the motif is that it represents a bisected San Pedro cactus, highly prized for its hallucinogenic properties. The walls of the bowl are decorated with alternating black and white linear décor, perhaps representing the spines of the cactus. Intact, with vivid paint and good mineral deposits.

An excellent Chimu or Lambayeque canteen from Peru, ca. 1100 - 1450 AD. This lovely blackware vessel is 7" high and is a ceramic version of a bottle gourd (Lagenaria siceraria). This rare example also mimics the large, stacked vessels used by chicha vendors in the markets. It is highly burnished, has intact suspension loops and shows strong mineral deposits and trails overall. Together with an old gourd canteen of indeterminate age showing extensive usage.

A fine Maya cylinder from El Salvador, ca. 400 – 700 AD. It is 6-3/4” high, 5” in diameter and features four panels with deeply carved linear designs. The broad rim band retains remains of creatures painted in blue over the red stucco, with the vertical stucco columns between the black panels also showing remnants of designs. There is an old field repair, else it’s in good condition, with heavy mineral deposits and much of the red and blue stucco remaining.
