A choice Nazca bowl from Peru, ca. 500 – 600 AD. It is 5-3/4” in diameter and features a star design with an unusual central dot, which turns it into a phytomorphic motif. One interpretation of the motif is that it represents a bisected San Pedro cactus, highly prized for its hallucinogenic properties. The walls of the bowl are decorated with alternating black and white linear décor, perhaps representing the spines of the cactus. Intact, with vivid paint and good mineral deposits.
Proulx “Sourcebook of Nazca Iconography”, page 167.
